I recently got TC but have no idea how or why. I'm sure it will be gone in a couple of days. Doesn't mean anything to me.
I have worked my butt off all of my life and am now "retired" so this is my relaxation and interest for the time being.
I Love learning new info and have found some of the sub-categories fit my yearn for this.
As far as your question: They sure are NOT geniuses ~~ that is for sure!!!
Many "users" have created numerous accounts and "vote" on their own answers many times to give them "Best Answer".
They also give themselves numerous "thumbs up" which give them more points when they give themselves BA.
Seems very pathetic to me but apparently Y!A allows (or tolerates) this type of cheating.
Also many users are on Y!A all day while at work and they admit to this. How the heck is that possible. No wonder our Country is in such a mess. Others--guess they don't work at all.

Well, they are certainly not geniuses. I believe more than anything they gave answers that people wanted to hear, and not necessarily correct answers. They also learned how not to get busted. When YS first got started there were many good people that had their accounts closed because of some pro-gay anti-Christian bias built into Yahoo. In the RS section there were many homosexuals and atheist who tried to dominate the forum. They could post gross questions and answers without penalty. Unfortunately they found favor in the eyes of Yahoo administration. Some of them are still here.

I also worked hard to get my TC status.
I don't have a lot of time at all, I have 2 jobs. One full time job and a part time weekend job, I come on here in my spare time.
Their answers usually come from personal experience or if they have a lot of knowledge on a certain subject and want to share it.

I realized that if someone has a lot of "voted by voters" best answers, it's very likely he voted his own answer as best answer. I tried it and it worked.
as for high levelers' I would assume they just have a lot of time on their hands, and they just spend it all on yahoo! answers..

some have multiple accounts and vote themselves as best answer, some are part of cliques that only give best answer to a member of the clique, and some actually give good, useful answers.

you get points for voting for best answer, if you can get the first answer to a question - people will vote for you regardless of your answer. You can get best answer w/o answering the question.
