Our hearts can beat faster without being in love too ;-) But being attracted to someone and being in love both release certain chemicals in the brain, like dopamine, and also increase the receptors of the happy hormones. Adrenaline release makes us reved up, pheromones, and oxytonin/ dopamine/serotonin release makes us feel great. and frontal brain activity for deeper feeling. Our brain just lights up. And our bodies feel the effects too. But it feels better just to call it love and enjoy.

I think that's more of a psyiological response when we are infatuated not in love. True love lasts beyond the point of when you no longer have the fast heart beat, shallow breathing, excited reaction.
But to answer your question--it is from sheer excitement of seeing that person and the anticpation of what's to come. ;)

being in love is much more than that.. that is attraction or excitement.. which is a part of love... but love is also the times when your heart aches and you wish you could rip it out.. it's also your day to day normal routine.. in short.. it's the highs and the lows and every moment in between.. and knowing this is how it's supposed to be.
