The coat has different colors depending upon which European country claims having the original Father Christmas. Green is one and yes coke did use a red one. But there have been brown and white coats too. Sort of like this: brown pinewood trees in white snow and red berries on green holly -- representing the time of year the holiday is being held.
[Edit: Santa had a red coat before coke by the way.]
Hope this helps. :) Happy Christmas

In the Nineteenth Century, Santa was depicted in a variety of colorful outfits, one of which was green. At times he was pictured wearing plaid, at times a yellow coat, and just about every color of the rainbow. It wasn't until just after the poem "The Night Before Christmas" came out that he began to appear exclusively in red. Coke didn't put him in red, but certainly managed to capitalize on that image of the jolly, white-haired old man in red holding up a bottle of Coca-cola.

No I dont think so...Father Christmas was rustic, in clothing more brownish or cocoa in color of clothing. I doubt very much that Coca-Cola made that change worldwide. Santa Claus has always be in a red suit.

Yes its true, he is a Pagan figure, who was used to potray the solstice of winter. and yes it was coca cola, hence the reason they still use the old fashioned santa in their ads

the red and white has nothing to do with Cola
It has to do with a small red and white Hallucinogenic mushroom, which was used by people in the pre-christian shamanic tribes , gave them nice dreams and rosy cheeks
