Writing checks with insufficient funds is very illegal. Bring the check to your bank and explain the problem.
They can try to run the check through the system. If it clears, you get your money. If it doesn't, the company gets the NSF fees and legal problems.
Waiting for help from the courts or government could take years.

see the boss and demand he pay all your due in cash
turn the check over to the district attorney for collection
