The one's the other guy didn't know. With the exception of Alberto Tomba, who I've never heard of.

Verdi. Composer. Wrote the opera Aida.
Vivaldi. Composer, The Four Seasons probably being his best known composition.
Sophia Loren. Very good actress. Still alive, I think.
Marconi was the other man who invented the television, his being the system that gained most use even if it wasn't the first.

You have missed the most famous Italian of all - Garibaldi, who with 1,000 supporters, succeeded in uniting Italy as one nation.

The pity of it is that he handed power back to the very people who had wanted him killed. Had Garibaldi continued his campaign, there is no doubt that Italy would have become the very first European Socialist Republic from the 1850s.

Garibaldi was mobbed in London. People threw their jewellery into his open carriage as it passed along the Mall enroute to Buckingham Palace to see Queen Victoria.
