I didn't realize I made a"choice" to be gay. I thought I just fell in love, my Dear One. Silly me! Here I thought it was all hormones and pheremones and theobromines and the good things like that! Drat.
I'm going to eat some chocolate now......

Well personally I think this is an absurd question! I mean do people ask heterosexuals- did you choice to be str8? No- so why should this question be asked of gay people! It's not a choice- it's just who you are! Although you do have a choice whether or not to stand up for who you really are or to hide it (like many people do)! But we only live once and life is what you make it- so it's best not to waste time not being who you truly are!

To be the person I am was not a choice, but rather a natural progression of events. I realized I was gay when I was 12, and only then because I found out what the term "gay" meant. In retrospect, I started showing signs of it when I was 6 in the first grade, but I didn't know enough yet about sexuality to put a name on what I felt.

No, I did not choose to be gay, it just turned out that it was a fact about myself I resented and rejected (to be more like my family and friends) at first, but eventually accepted as I went through my teenage years. There was absolutely NO ONE I could talk to about my feelings, and I didn't know any other gay people, which caused me to withdraw from the world into myself. That lead to severe depression and several suicide attempts, followed by being committed into a mental institution (for months on end) each of the five times I tried.

(FACT: Two thirds of all teenage suicide stems from issues with homosexuality and lack of acceptance by family and peers.)

Once I apccepted this fact about myself, and came out to my mom, I was a much happier person, and haven't been in the wallowing pit of despair that was my adolescent and teenage years since then.

Society has continaully persuecuted two groups of people throughout history: Jews and Homosexuals. In both cases, you can't choose the person you'll be born as, but that doesn't stop people from being mean-spirited and malicious to those they perceive as different. Why would anyone INTENTIONALLY CHOOSE to be a part of a stigmatized group?

Being gay is no more a choice (I suppose it could be for a rare few) than your sex, your hair color, your race, who your parents are, or any number of predtermined factors beyond your control.

Steve this is steve, I believe some are born with no choice, while others do it of their own will. You have people who are so called straight , those called bisexual, and those who are gay. It's like steve-o on Jackass and Viva La bam that do thing for the kicks. Then there are those who don't do it for the kicks ! Hope I've made my point. Good Luck have a very Merry Christmas filled with Health Happiness, and Wealth beyond your wildest dreamd. Remember to pray for our troops and light a candle for those who can't be with us.

I know being gay is not a choice, but I am not sure living the lifestyle is. I guess one can not live the gay lifestyle, but then they would not be honest and true to themselves and others who come into their lives.

being gay or bi is not a choice. BUT there is a choice involved. the choice comes when you choice to hide or embrace who you are.

my hubby is bi and i support him. that is who he is. a few years ago he found the "perfect" guy. it took him a long time to try anything and then a few months ago we lost him to cancer. i say we because this guy was one of my best friends. my hubby has chosen to not date men for a while. i think its his way of dealing. the feelings will still be there.

It means that all men like both men and women but decide to be gay or decide to be straight. thats why the guys that choose to be straight hate gay men because they realize they made the wrong choice and we gay guys are out there having lots of sex, staying single and are not burdened with fat wives and children.

I'm not gay but my best friend struggled with it because she didn't realize she was.I don't think it's a choice but I guess that's why some people find it hard to understand.

One thing I have heard is that shy men chose this 'lifestyle' because it is too hard to pull a girl. This assumes that one can get used to anything with enough practice, I guess.
