1.) Subtract. Write the answer in simplest form.
2/3 - 8/15

Can you explain how to do these?
Or give me a link to a site that'd explain it?
I can't believe I forgot...-_-

First, you have to figure out a common denominator (the bottom number). In this case, the denominator 3 of the first fraction can simply be multiplied by 5 to make 15, matching the denominator of the second fraction. You also have to multiply the top number (numerator) when you do this. Then you have 10/15 - 8-15. Now you just perform simple subtraction of the numerators (top), and combine the two fractions into one, 2/15. Since 15 is not divisible by 2, this is the simplest form of the solution.

Dont know if i'm a very good teacher but here goes.

Make the two numbers below the fraction equal.

In this example thats 15.

so 3 into 15 goes 5 times. Then multiple the 2 by 5 to get 10.
the new fraction for 2/3 is 10/15.
Then its just a simple subtraction of the tops of the fractions

2/3 - 8/15
10/15- 8/15
2/15

I'm sure somebody else explained it much clearer than that, but hey there you go.

You have to find a common denominator. In this case it is 15 so the second fraction is okay the way it is. You have to change 2/3 so it has 15 as the denominator. To do this ask the question, "what do I have to multiply the 3 by to get 15?" The answer is 5.

then what you do to the bottom you have to do to the top so multiply the 2*5 as well and your new equation becomes

10/15-8/15-----subtract to get 2/15

The denominators (the bottom half of the fraction) have to match so you have the find the least common denominator. In this case it would be 15. So you take the first fraction and multiply it by 5 (On the top and bottom) which will give you 10/15.
So
10/15 - 8/15 = 2/15. This is in simplest form because you can not take anything out of both the top and bottom to make either number smaller.

Must important thing to remember, WHATEVER YOU DO TO THE TOP, YOU MUST DO TO THE BOTTOM (AND VICE VERSA!)

You find your common denominator which would be 15.
now to bring 2/3 up to 15 you multiply both the nominator and denominator by 5 2/3 x 5/5 = 10/15 - 8/15 = is 2/15 which cannot be reduced to a simpler fraction form.

I do hope that helps, wish I had the site addresses for some of the great math sites that assist students with homework problems. You might check out Barnes and Nobles to see if you can locate a book in Advanced Mathematics and Pre-Algebra. They have great workbooks that teachers use to get lesson plans from that teach step by step and are great for refreshing our rusty math corners and cleaning the cob webs out of our attics.
Good Luck!

Okay, well the first thing you have to do is put them both with common denominators: Since 3 goes into 15, you know that 15 is an acceptable denominator to put both fractions into. Three goes into 15 five times. So you need to multiple the first fraction (2/3) by five.

2/3 * 5 = 10/15

10/15 - 8-15 = 2/15

That is the simplest fraction possible, so you're done!

It's a case of finding the least comon denominator. 2/3 = 10/15. Now subtract 8/15 from 10/15. Simple, isn't it?

first to add or subtract, you have to have common denominators. by doing that you find a number that is the least common denominator, in this case it is 15, because 15 is divisible by 3. since the LCM is 15, you multiply the numerator by the same number you use to get 15 for the denominator, in this case it is 5. so 5x2=10.
therefore 10/15 (minus) 8/15 equals 2/15.

ok we need to have a common denominator...

so for this it would be 15

2/3 needs to be multiplied by 5 to get 10/15
...and 8/15 is already done for you

now we just take away the top numbers which gives us
10-8 = 2

so we have 2/15
this can not be simplified and thats its simplest form :)

hope you understand =)
