There's static EVERYWHERE, I can't wear fleece or use fleece blankets, I can't wear sweaters! I wake up in the morning and my eyes, nose and mouth are so dried out. We keep our heat at 70, but it only seems to really work right by the place where it is, not through the vents - we can't turn it down or we'll freeze. I'm tired of shocking myself everytime I turn around. Can anyone help? I can't afford a humidifier and I'm not even sure that would work. We live in a 4 room apartment (kitchen, diningroom/livingroom, bedroom, bathroom) on the first floor, partially below ground. Thanks!

Hi, I assume that as you say "through the vents",
you have blow air central heating.

When we used to have blow air heating, we use to put a bowl of water in front of the vent (or inside the vent if there's a ledge) and that humidified the air.

Hope that helps

*** From The Old School ***
First *** Put a pot of water on your stove top and start it heating. At least a gallon of water. To the water add two table spoons of salt and two teaspoons of olive oil. Grandma always added a few cloves to make the house smell nice and it also let you know when the moister was getting into all of the rooms.
While your water is boiling on the stove * * Set a pot of water on or in front of your heat stove - floor vents or under your ceiling vents. No need to add salt or olive oil to these.
I'm over 50 yr old and this has never let me down.
Good Luck.

Humidifers aren't very expensive $20-$40 should do it... Also, if you have a high radiator you can always put your bath towels to dry on top of it.... Damp/wet washcloths so the water evaporates into the air. Or put bowls of water near the radiator. Wow, having the heat at 70 degrees is pretty high, if you turn it down to 65-68 that would help...

Check out freecycle.org and post a "want" within your community... Everything posted is free you just have to pick it up ! Good luck

Check the Goodwill or Salvation Army or local Thrift Stores -- also garage sales, flea markets and church rummage sales.

You can frequently find basic humidifiers there for only a dollar or two. You don't need the fancy ultrasonic kind, just simply the steam kind. Wash them out well with vinegar to remove lime deposits, fill with water and plug them in. They make warm steam, so use care with small children and pets.

In the meantime, you can boil pots of water on the stove -- but your utility bill will show it (it's not very efficient).

Other sources of moisture -- bowls of water (lots of surface area), houseplants (which naturally evaporate water), and even leaving a couple inches of (clean) water in the bathtub to evaporate, will add small amounts of moisture to the air.

Put a pot of water on the stove at a simmer...you'll need to refill a few times a day, but it will work. Of course, an inexpensive humidifier would be less expensive in the long run. You can get one on ebay for under $30.00

You can get a cheap humidifier for like $20. If that is really too much you could put a pot of water on the stove on low and keep a real close eye on it.

years ago, we used to keep a large kettle of water on low on the stove, it adds moisture to the air. However there is the dangerof forgetting it and it drying out and at very least, smoking up your place, or worse yet a fire. Short of getting a humidifer, maybe you could borrow one for a while to see if it helps. I don't know what to tell you. sorry.

First boil some water with a little bit of lavender oil in it...the lavender oil will make the dwelling smell nice.

You can also put some water in a spray bottle with some lavender oil..and spray it around...very nice.

Get some plants and put them around...and make sure you keep them watered.

Also...a nice water garden would be nice.....get an old wooden tub and fill it with water...buy some water loving plants...and enjoy! Put in various ones...then add your goldfish..and you have something wonderful....you may have to keep this away from small children.

hi, i have wavy hair too. which is frizzy just the way you explained!! and i have found solution for it to be softer and smoother. i don't believe in ironing it or blow drying it after every wash, i do it one on any special occasions. here is what i do, try doing it. i apply oil on my hair overnight (this smoothens hair and does not make it dry and frizzy), the next morning i apply curd and leave it for about 10 mins and then wash it with plain water, then with sunsilk smooth and shiny shampoo (any shampoo that smoothens or softens your hair is preffered.) wash only once. do not apply twice or thrice as written in the package that removes natural oil from your hair and makes it more frizzy. then apply dove conditioner, again, something that smoothens and softens must be preffred. run your fingers along and comb it with your fingers as you wash. after wash cover your hair with a towel and keep it tied with the towel for 30 mins. then comb with your fingers again. and let it dry naturally. i don't comb my hair the whole day. and the next day when i comb it will not be much wavy and curly. i pamper my hair every 15 days, sometimes i give a warm oil massage, apply henna, apply honey+coconut oil+olive oil mix, apply hibiscus leaves water, apply aloevera, apply egg white, wash wit tea liquor, etc., (are the few things that i do.) one hair mask that has worked wonders- mayonnaise 2 spoons+2 egg whites+ 2 spoons coconut oil+ 1 spoon olive oil mix it well and add 2 spoons of honey if you are okey if the hair get lightened a bit, mix all these well apply on you hair and leave it for 30 mins and then wash with shampoo and condition it. hair will be very soft post this. every time i have to go out in pollution and dust i make sure my hair is covered with a scarf. do not brush or comb your hair too much. i have been following this from past 8-9 years after i have started growing my hair longer and people like my hair.

Put a bucket or big bowl of water next to the heater and that should add some moisture to the air
