I grew up in NJ, and it has changed a lot since I left. Yep, most of it is the pits now, but I still spend my summers there.
You don't have the Jersey Shore anywhere else, believe me, there are no other 'shores' on the east coast like it.
Some clear winter evening take a ride from 14A to 14C on the pike and check out the view of NYC - it's fabulous! Or take an NJ Transit bus to NYC some night... another great view going into the city.
I suppose the money is good and at least there are jobs. Here in Florida there are very few full time jobs. Mostly they keep you part time so they don't have to pay out any benefits. Anything in retail is minimum wage.
How you view your surroundings has a lot to do with your own attitude. There are a LOT of people that love NJ and wouldn't live anywhere else.
Get off the net and go out and find a few real people to be friends with... they don't all suck (if ALL the people suck and are phony and Aholes, then go look in the mirror... you've just described yourself!)
Time for an attitude check.

I just moved from a suburb in Illinois to NYC and I have to tell you America pretty much feels the same everywhere. New Jersey is the same as where I used to live except for having hills and new trees. The shops seem the same, the gas stations, and even the same fast food chains. I guess it might be a bit more populated which makes it seem like everyone is in a little bit more of a rush. But people are the same everyone. Its not that their assholes, phony, or morally devoid. They are just looking out for their own interests and if phony means being friendly to the next guy when you don't really care about them, then yeah they probably are phony by that definition.
I'm sure that people are different in some was either in the city or much much less populated areas. I would imagine that less populated areas have more of what you consider phony because it is a tight nit community where people have to get along because they may run into each other again. The city is on the other hand is so populated that people don't have time to be friendly. They may make them seem more arrogant at times but you seem to get more honest human interaction when people are friendly. Keep in mind that I am just taking in general terms and its all about a persons perspective. Don't believe that your judgment are the end all be all truth even though they may feel that way.

Honestly, it completely depends where you live in New Jersey. The beautiful thing about the state of NJ is that it is enormously diverse in its landscape, people, culture, and so forth. My personal preference is to not live in the crowded areas closer to the city, such as Newark, Jersey City, Weehawken, Hoboken, and so forth. However, the shopping, restaurants and nightlife in some of these areas are great. You could also go live down at the shore. Places like Long Beach Island, Point Pleasant, Cape May, and so forth have great seafood and you can find a more slower-paced way of living with the gentle sea breeze. OR you could live in the countryside towards the Western side of the state (i.e. Hunterdon County). Towns such as Lambertville hold so much history and represents the ideal "quaint" town with hundreds of restaurants, the sweetest people you have ever met, and a killer night life right over the river in New Hope, PA. Honestly, I love the extreme diversity of NJ. You are so close to NYC and Philly, yet can live a low-key life. You can obtain any experience you would like within the matter of 1-2 hours. It's great!

Yes! I would never move back there!! It's overpopulated with rude and miserable people. Jobs are scarce, and everyone strives at being the best asshole. It's mostly cold and dark all year. It's polluted, expensive, corrupted, dilapidated, and you can't pump your own gas or make a u turn. Tolls are ridiculous! Women overall lack beauty, and if she's a 6 she acts like an 11. Did I mention it's ******* crowded, so take a number and wait in line the rest of your life while you wish to die there, because residing in NJ is a slow and painful death where people don't know what happiness is, just how to obnoxiously honk their horns and cut you off with their middle finger up. douche jersey..not for me. Texas 4 life!!!!!

regardless if it is good or bad it sounds like you need a change. I recommend moving. the worst thing that could happen is you could hate where you end up and then you could just move back. But what if you love where you might move? If you don't try something new you will wake up 20 tears from now in New Jersey wondering what if? That would be the real tragedy

Places in and around Morris County are really nice places to live. As mentioned before, it really depends where in NJ you live. I've been in most of NJ and I haven't seen any cities or towns that really match what you're talking about. Any kind of person could be in any state, really.

No place is perfect. I lived in NJ for 33 years and moved to PA last year for pretty much the same things that you are complaining about. There are many things that are better here, some that are worse, it all just depends on what you are looking for.

All Asians is a vast generalization. Asia covers a extensive area of the international. If it replace right into a terrible place for Asian adult males than we does not have quite a few Chinatowns, Little Saigon, Little Phenom Penh, Little Tokyo, quite a few Koreatowns, Little Bombay, Filipinotown, Little Pakistan and Thai city. I probable ignored one million or 2 Asian enclaves, yet you get the factor.
