If so you may be sowing the seeds of your own destruction. The Chinese are spending much more on "defense" than is currently warranted. I am sure that they have a master plan that involves geographical expansion and we are helping them along by purchasing their products. Just a nation of sheep quietly being shorn. I stopped whistling past the graveyard a few years ago. Anyone agree with me? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071129/ap_on_re_as/china_us_navy

Unfortunately it has gotten very difficult not to buy items made in China.

I avoid Chinese made products when possible and probably unknowningly buy things that may have been manufactured in China but assembled somewhere else.

If everyone at least tries to avoid Chinese made products and cuts consumption by 20-25% that will result in a massive impact on the market.

My husband and I try to look at labels for the origin on products, and if possible to see where the materials come from. We purchase as much goods as possible that sport the "made in America" label.
Now,for those idiots that blame WalMart for the influx of Chinese goods, I suggest you go back in you're memory banks and try to figure who started this crap, it sure wasn't Wal Mart as you claim.
Mr. Sam Walton's idea when he started his chain of stores was to sell as many items made in America as he could get, to the point of even investing money in businesses that were failing in this country and selling their products. His competitors started importing Chinese goods to compete with Wal Marts low prices.
Look around you freind, and you'll find Chinese crap in almost all stores, including the high end, expensive stores, in fact, Target has more stuff from China than Wal Mart.

Isn't it amazing that similiar questions were asked prior to WWII of the Japanese ? Yes, as a retired management person who was affected by foreign competition,( the clothing manufacturing operations) too many companies are concerned with the bottom line profit. Instead of modernizing operations in the states, facilities are built in cheap labor areas to maximize earnings. which will disappear as those workers become more affluent.

Americans buy whatever is cheaper and still well made. Look at all the foreign cars. It's called capitalism.

Now, how it can be fair for us when China is a slave labor country and we have unions demanding more and more every year I have no idea.
