What is your opinion on cash as a gift?
Do you think it is an easy way out of shopping and putting thought into a gift?
Or do you like cash as a gift and feel it is ok?

I always give my kids cash. They love it! They know I hate shopping, and there is always something they don't get that they want, and they can take advantage of after x-mas sales to get it.

Cash as a gift is fine, just make sure you put it in a card to go along with the occasion. Everyone is busy these days and in my opinion I rather receive cash than a gift that I don't like and have to take time out of my day to take it back to the store and most of the time it's always about store credit and no cash back... you know?

I don't think it is an easy way out because a lot of times we don't know what the person needs so either cash or a gift card would work. as for me I would give the cash to charity and as for the gift card I would give it to someone that truly needs it more than me.

I like cash as a gift, sure. But it usually comes from the family member who doesn't make any attempt to get to know you or seems interested. Even a gift card is a little more personal because at least that person recognizes that you would like a dinner at X restaurant or sweaters from X store.

I asked my son one year about cash as a Christmas gift
he said that if someone put so little thought into a gift as to give him cash he would return it ...it would hurt his feelings

I think gift cards are better. I find too many people use the cash to pay bills etc., instead of actually getting something for themselves.

I like gifts better....but it depends on your relationship to the person the gift is for. If it's for a significant other you will have to shop around for a gift because it expresses they way you feel about the person.
brother, sister, nephew, etc... money is fine.
