I am not happy at all that Musharraf is stepping down under the US pressure. The USA hardly understands the ground realities in Pakistan.General Musharraf should have been given plenty of support by the western world for the good of this region and the world peace in general.
By his resignation as Army Chief and holding General Election on the 8th of January 2008 , I don't think there will be any peace within Pakistan nor in the whole region. The hard line Islamists will come to power with the Pak army backing (especially, the ISI).No one can administer Pakistan without getting the support of the fundamentalists and the pro hard liners in the Pakistani Army.

My friend, Pervez Musharraf stepping down as a chief of army staff will certainly result in reduction in his power over policies and issues. Also i don't think fundamentalism is on the rise in Pakistan instead i believe it is the opposite.

well am not from pakistan . But very frankly, it will not make any difference. If you study the history of generals in pakistan who has came to the power by suppressing democracy, you will find that all of them have tried to impose a so called military led democracy over there . So its will not improve pakistan's status and also will increase tension in this region as well.
