If you are pouring the detergent directly onto the towels that could be why. Always let the washer fill & start to agitate before adding.:)

We are having the same problem!
And it has happened off and on ever since we purchased a Kenmore calypso type washer.
We just bought several new hand towels, and they came out of the wash with stains that looked just like bleach stains.
However, we very rarely ever use bleach, and I know for a fact that this last episode was not due to bleach.
And it doesn't stain everything in a load---it seems random.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem with towels. Yeah it definitely sounds like a bleaching problem. I stopped wiping my mouth on my handtowels after I brushed, toothpaste can bleach out color. That worked.

Sounds like bleach spots, don't run a load of colored clothes right after bleaching whites. Rinse out the washing machine.
It helped me.
