I just put a gig into it, with the existing 512. I thought that it helps the internet speed in some way? Or is it just for having multiple programs running at the same time?

RAM is a pre-processor information storage that helps to organize and distribute informations that the processor must relate back to the hard drive. RAM stands for Random Access Memory. RAM also acts as sort of a "cup", as it holds the information that the processor is sending back to the hard drive. The smaller the RAM you have, the less information it can hold, making the processes of the pc slower. As far as the internet goes, the only thing affected is how fast the cookies(the little bits of information used to identify and navigate web sites) are downloaded onto your hard drive. The actual internet speed is not affected by the speed of your processor or RAM

RAM is Random Access Memory and stores data for a limited amount of time or until you close the application. Increasing the RAM results in faster response time from the computer and it results in programs loading up faster. You can try that on games and understand the difference. It really doesn't have any visible effect on the internet speed. It does nothing to increase or decrease it. But higher RAM is better as new and advanced programs are memory hungry and they need powerful and bigger RAM to run them in a smooth manner. 1.5 GB is pretty good, but when you have Windows Vista, its not so great after all i have heard people still experiencing lagging problems with even 2 Gb of RAM. If its XP, 1.5 Gb is really good unless you are running a game or program that demands even higher RAM.

RAM (Random Access Memory) is what holds the files and programs that you are currently running. Adding RAM will increase the speed at which your computer runs.

But it WON'T increase the speed at which you access the Internet. That is because the Internet itself runs much much slower then your computer. So whether your computer can hold 512mb of information or 1,512 mb of information, if it is only coming down from the Internet at 100mb, it will only run at 100mb. (Sorry!!)

Were you will notice the difference is (like you guessed) when you try to run more than one program at a time.

RAM will not effect your internet speed. It will help when running multiple programs at the same time.

It can affect the perceived internet speed, for example how well your PC deals with downloading web pages. However it will not allow you to download a 10MB file three times faster.
