If the unit is under warranty and Sears is replacing it free then wait. However this could be a very busy time of year for their contractors. Call their customer service department again and (politely of course) ask to speak to a supervisor if you cant get a firm date from the rep. If warranty is not an issue, go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy one with huarantee of one day installation. As a last resort, look up plumbers in the telephone directory and see if you can get one to come out. 5 days is an awfully long time to be waiting for this type of repair.

Repacement of a hot water heater in an accessible place with adequate feeds should take no longer than a couple of hours at the most.
However, if you have ordered a type not in stock, it could be in transit. If you ordered a special type, same thing. Sears just might not have it.
Finally, though, you are dealing with a company that frequently does not do its own work and farms it out to subs, who will fit you into their own schedules when they have the time.

I guess it depends on the availability of the water heater etc. I had one recently installed and they did it in a couple of hours. Have you ever considered a tankless water heater, huge savings, probably over 50% in cash money back in your pocket with the savings: Have a look at this informative site:

I've had a plumber get one in in 6 hours. I own 12 rent houses and time is very important. 5 days really sucks.

Usually 2-3 days tops... unless you have to special order what you are wanting. Most plumbers could do it same day.
