Poetic Progress*

Poetry that is controversial
Is seldom very convivial
To everyone...

For each the separate
Critique...
For that poet daring the
Oblique...

The 'old school' becomes
The 'new school'...
If not, it stays
The 'dead school.'

This is really interesting and , I believe, so true. It seems like it would take a poet with a lot of courage and a unique perspective to really have an effect on the evolutionary process. I don't know why but the rhyming of "critique" with "oblique" is delicious.

This reads like the work of a mediocre poet with an ax to grind. My guess is that the author wrote it in a fit of pique after receiving some criticism she didn't like. Her verbal temper tantrum makes her seem smug and shallow.

Your second stanza especially evokes Emily Dickinson. Was that intentional? It certainly fits with the theme.
