I currently live in the NJ/NYC area, and it's pretty crappy.

I want to relocate but I"m not sure where to go. I do have the money and the resources, but I'm just not sure where because some people say that this is the place to be (which it really isnt, at least people wise. May be money wise)

I'm just sick of it here, and want to move and need ideas, there MUST be a better place out there than NJ/NYC.

What's best/worst is a matter of opinion. I currently live in New England, north of Boston on the NH seacoast.

For me, the best based purely on your criteria of people/jobs/environment/culture/attitude -

1. NYC - in particular Manhattan.
2. Boston metro area, probably Cambridge
3. San Francisco bay area - probably Palo Alto.
4. Miami
5. Seattle

Worst -

1. Indiana/Kentucky
2. Idaho/Wyoming/Montana/N & S Dakota
3. Iowa/Nebraska/Kansas
4. Vermont/NH/Maine
5. New Mexico

Each of the best and worst have pluses and minuses against your criteria.

The people in the mid-west are the most friendly in the US, but it's the bible/rust belt. It's Boring!

If your into being outdoorsy you can't beat the mountain states - Wyo, Mont etc.. - but if you want to some culture, maybe a little sushi or Indian food - forget it.

Iowa/Nebraska - you like farmin?

Vermont/NH/Maine - they roll up the sidewalks after labor day. Jobs are few and far between. Their politics are stuck in the 1920s and they like it.

New Mexico, great if your a native American, if not, your in the minority.

I also live in NYC and I don't like it. I'm originally from the Midwest and am looking to move out of the area in the next year or so. NY is a place to visit; but it sucks living here.

I have visited 48 states (all except Alaska and Hawaii) and these are my favorite states in no particular order:

1. Colorado
2. Minnesota
3. Oregon
4. Vermont
5. Massachusetts

I'd stay clear of any of the southern states, they're just not my cup of tea.

Top 5 favorite cities:
1. Denver
2. Seattle
3. Minneapolis
4. Boston
5. Chicago

I have traveled alot for business and some personal. Heres a short list:

Good places:
Tampa or Miami Florida. Can be kinda expensive but all the cuties around of different nationalities is rewarding.
Greensboro, NC. People are friendly and the weather is pretty nice. It is near good college BBall (i.e Duke, Tarheels and Wake Forest) and near other major cites within an hour.
Chicago: Classic place. Great nite life and live music. Again, kinda pricey at times but there are alot of things to do.

Bad choices:
ANYWHERE in Alabama. I went to college there and I am not going back. People are friendly to a very racist degree.
Dallas/Irving Texas. It is too spread out and take fortevere becuz of traffic to get anywhere. nice people for the most part and the food is pretty good.

I have lived in five different states and traveled alot around the eastern US.

Florida is great, the sunshine, the relaxing lifestyle, the beach. But only if you are retired.....if you are younger, most of the recreation and affordable housing on the coasts are geared towards the old and rich. Northern florida is redneck, and southern florida is cuban.

The midwest is cheap to live and has great food and sub culture, and is friendly towards younger people with little money, but it is cold 6 months out of the year, and is flat, treeless and boring. You have grey depressing weather alot.

The mid atlantic (MD VA DE) is beautiful, with mountains, beaches amd cities not to far away, but the cost of living is outrageous, and it is crowded and alot of people are stuck up.

Georgia and the Carolinas are ok in certain places, but stay in the big cities, otherwise you encounter alot of racists who hang out at the Walmart, which is generally the only store in town besides the local grain and feed.....

AVOID INDIANA I NEVER SAW SO MANY MEXICAN CHILDREN SPORTING MULLETS IN MY LIFE......

good luck!!!
