I guess it depends on who's competing? Is it just for kids or can anyone participate? Not everyone likes to draw, so maybe doing something crafty would be nice, like an ornament decorating contest? If it's for kids, it can be as simple as cutting out a large, fun ornament shape, provide colorful glitter, glue, stickers and sequins. They can decorate it and when they're done, punch a hole in the top, string a ribbon through it and they can hang it. There can be multiple categories, so more than one child could win an award. If it's a competition for the grown-ups, they can still do ornament decorating, but the materials and methods can be open-ended and up to the artist's imagination. The entries can be hung on a tree and judges or passerbys can vote on their favorites. The finished pieces can then be auctioned off and the proceeds can go to a favorite local charity.

Give everyone a plain ornament and they have to decorate them. Decorate a small tree (they can be donated to nursing homes after the contest). Design a Christmas Card for a not for profit agency to sell to make money.

A door decorating contest.. are you doing this at school? Depends on where you are doing it. You could also do a gingerbread house making contest.. or like said above, a small Christmas tree decorating contest. Sounds like fun!

How about decorating small Christmas trees...everyone gets a different theme and someone judges them on most creativity. most original, etc. You could jot different themes on pieces of paper and draw from a hat.
