Try to focus on your breath. In the Buddhist *religion*, if you could call it that, it is said that no one can focus their mind completely until they have practiced for many, many months. If you're having trouble with holding your breath or breathing hard, that's the thing to focus on. Try to make it as calm as possible. It's also a great way to soothe yourself, but also serves a great guideline for meditation. Many Buddhist practices involve extended breath-meditation.

Well, meditation like many things requires practice. Since you just started your problem is normal. When I first started I would think about nothing and everything. There is no real quick fix for your problem, just keep practicing. Your problem is simply a product of our environment. As we grow we are constantly thinking of what is to come. Am I doing the right thing? What do I need to do today? I hope I have the time to go out this weekend and see a movie? What movie do I want to see? This goes on and on. We were never taught to just let go. If we did we are considered lazy or not motivated. Try breathing in through the nose and exhaling very slowly out your mouth. When you breathe out make a sound like you are fogging up a mirror. Also, when you exhale, squeeze your middle finger and thumb together. I use a 10 count for inhaling and exhaling. At first count them out in your head but after some practice you won't need to count anymore. What I found useful as well is to create a tape of yourself and say what you want to meditate about. For anything you want. Then listen to this while you meditate. Put it on repeat and just listen and concentrate. Before long you will not need the tape. It’s just a way to help you stop thinking like you were taught to think. Let go of all your worries and just enjoy life and your surroundings. I hope this helps. Take care. The mind is not easy to control. You just started.. so this is something you will have to work on for some time.. just think.. you've trained your brain to run free your entire life.. so you won't wake up tomorrow and be able to have the level of control it takes to meditate at a deep level. However, slow, deep breaths can help.. some people find that lowering the lighting and using a candle (sometimes more) helps.. for me I find that adding some white noise.. such as when I go out into nature... helps me focus out.. for others any noise at all may be a distraction... in the end ... we can give you hints that have worked for other people... but can't tell you with certainty that it will work for you... you will have to figure out what works for you on your own... but have patience.. like I said.. it won't happen over night.

Easy clean your thoughts by counting to ten and back (Backwards of course) keep doing so until your mind is completely blank, You should master it shortly without having to count.
