In Tx., we have the Castle Doctrine, which basically allows us to stab, shoot, whatever people invading our homes/property. And I can't speak for anyone else, but legal or no I believe we have a moral right to defend ourselves, our loved ones, and our property. Better to face twelve than be carried by six.

Many states in the U.S. allow you to use deadly force to stop an intruder. They recently eliminated the requirement that you try to back away or escape the harm in some states (the "Castle Doctrine"). This is a state law so each state may be different.
"Today 19 out of 50 US states, mostly in the south and the central regions of the country, have this kind of laws, and similar legislation is pending in about a dozen others."

In most states in the US if a person breaks into your house and is armed and you are afraid for your life, you can legally shoot/stab/beat him. The key thing is that they must already be inside your home and must be armed. The main thing to remember is that you must be sure that you can disarm or disable him so that he doesn't take your weapon away and use it on you. You also will have to live with the consequences of your actions and all the legalities that follow. Police recommend that you escape if possible and call them. They are usually better equipped to deal with these people than you are.

It depends on the laws of the state you live in, and a number of other factors such as the threat level posed by the robber. In general, you are allowed to defend yourself and your property with an amount of force proportional to the threat. If they are unarmed and not threatening you, then in some states you are not allowed to kill or stab them. I don't see how pregnancy would be relevant.

In the US, it depends on the state. In most states you can use deadly force only if there is no other option, such as retreat and escape. Like someone else said, some states have castle doctrine, which allows you to shoot before other options are exhausted.

It would be legal, but stabbing or shooting an intruder has lasting consequences that are very unpleasant. It's best to try to escape, even if you lose some property.

Redneck from texas:
The moral obligation to protect yourself? How about the moral obligation not to kill others?
In New York State if you reasonably believe someone is going to kill you and you are in your home you can you deadly force and not face criminal reprocussions.

Here in the US, well, in some states, you have the right to defend yourself and your property.
I think a knife might be a tad messy though...

Yes it would be legal here (America) but shooting them is a much better idea.

Just remember that a dead person can not testify against you, a wounded one can. now you do the math.
