Yes, I have discretionary money left after paying bills (and rent). Not as much as I would like, but that's reality.
I generally write three checks (Rent, Cable, Electricity), and water when it's due (which is not every month).
I shop as I need to (food, clothes, etc).
I treat myself to my hobbies (music, comics, movies, RPG) as I can afford to, and if there is something I really want. I have never been able to shop just for the heck of it.

I would say we pay about 15 bills. We put a specific amount from each paycheck into our shared "bills" account and keep the rest in our separate accounts. This has worked well so far and we don't feel like we aren't contributing fairly. If you need more money try for a second job like waitressing. I did it for years after I got divoriced and sure it hurts the pride but I did keep my house.

I write about 100 per month. Or at least it feels like I do lol. And no, there is no money left after they have been paid

Cable (includes phone and internet)
That's it!! I pay for everything else in cash!! I do not use credit cards!! And I shop 4 times a month!!

too many to count, but since i majored in business administration in college i manage to calculate so i always have money left over.
