The mother that posed as a boy wanted to see if the young girl was talking about her daughter, I think. Without knowing the whole story I don't know what should happen. I do know there is a 13 year old dead because a parent got involved the wrong way in her child's life.It so much easier to talk to kids then to go behind there backs in this manner. You would be suprised how up front kids are if yopu ask them straight out a question. Don't beat around the bush and give them room to avoid it. If you ask straight out they usually will give you a staight answer and want to talk.
Tara: You make a good point, you should not trust anyone on the internet. But also Tara we try not to bad mouth anyone also.

Personally I believe the woman should be held accountable. How dare she play on the emotions of a 14yearold. Adolescents at age 14 are very impressionable and emotional. If they've never experienced certain things such as having a boyfriend or being taunted then it could really hurt them. Maybe this teen was being picked on or maybe she was really like the made up young man. HOwever the older woman was wrong for playing with that child's head. I feel that she should be punished and dealt with accordingly. If an adult has a vindetta against a child then that adult needs to get serious and immediate help.

Tho I couldn't be a stronger advocate of personal responsibility, I'm disturbed by the notion that this suicide was no one else's fault but her own or her families. That strikes me as "false wisdom". There are reasons why the law doesn't consider 14 year olds consenting adults. It's hard enough not to be manipulated when you're 28! Everybody no matter how smart is vulnerable at 14, and if that manipulation results in damage then the person who "should" have been wiser must be held responsible, That is the real meaning of personal responsibility.

The poor girls probably had a lot of deep issues that she needed to be dealt with. But at the same time, vulnerable unhappy people are susceptible to suggestions, and I think the person who did this over the net should be dealt with, as it would, hopefully, discourage others, from doing the same.
And the Media should make it National, or International, to bring this to these dreadful people who are just plain sick. The young girls was the victim not the perpetrator.

The woman posing as a boy told the young girl that they had heard she was a mean person and he did not want to be her friend any longer. An adult playing with a childs head like that ought to be publicly named and shamed. Probably at this time there is not a law to prosecute her but everyone should know her name and what she did.
Hoping they enact the law to prosecute evil people like her.

Just a question, didn't the girls parents notice any changes in their daughter and inquire why? What is happening in her life, I am quite certain there was some indication prior to the suicide that the parents should have picked up on. I KNEW my kids moods. Didn't the parents intervene?
Truthfully, it is a hard one to call, surely cruel to the child by the other party, there are no laws YET, but I still hold the parents accountable as well, they must, at every avenue, protect their child, know their child well, and seek medical intervention since she already had a history of depression.
Tara is absolutely correct in her and Chris' statement trusting people met on the internet...do NOT do it!

The woman could be considered a predator. She set out to do harm to an underage person. She should be accountable in some way though I am not sure how. That would depend on all of the evidence.

For her we should bring back the punishments of early Jamestown and Williamsburg ..... the stocks or pillory in the town square where people are locked by the neck and wrists with a sign stating offense. Embarrasment the only real pain.

I wish something could be done to the woman that posed as the boy.......she knew the young girl was vulnerable......who knows maybe the lady does feel guilty and she will have to live with the rest of her life........
as a parent I would want the other lady to suffer.......but it is not my place to judge.......
but it is true as Tara said, trust no one on the net...........
