Is there a place where I can find out the number of coins minted before the end of the year? It would be great to know the number minted weekly as they are minted.

There is no site to go to until the mint releases the figures. They do however sometimes give up to date figures, or at least the last ones they checked to magazines. In the Coin World issue 11/26/07 they have the following figures. 218,187 proof dollars, 78,091 uncirculated dollars, 44,531 proof $5 gold and 17,582 uncirculated $5 gold. Looks like the 2007 Little Rock Central High School uncirculated dollar may be a good one to have, for the mintage is only 39,054 so far. This is the latest data I have and I don't know if the mint has permission from congress to sell both coins beyond 2007. If not the groups that get the surcharges may ask for an extension and get it. Hope this fills you in to what is up at least to know.

Authorized by Public Law 108-289, the commemorative coins are limited to maximum mintages across all product options of 500,000 for the silver dollar and 100,000 for the $5 gold coin. Both coins may be issued only during the one-year period beginning January 1, 2007.
