Remember what it was like to go to one? Do you know that they are still around? I took my grandson to one last summer and he loved it. He wants to keep going. He thought that it was such a great idea to be able to watch a movie on a big screen and that you could watch while sitting in your car, relaxed. I wasn't too fond of the 40 mile drive each way, but, we will be going again next summer.

We have 4 here in Iowa. Two are about 40 miles away in different directions and the other 2 are 80 and 85 miles away.

Texas has a drive- in- theater two hours away.

My husband and I went to Texas to buy a new mattress for or bed and as we were coming back we saw the drive-in- theater.
We were so jazzed.
We called our daughter in law
to ask her
which show we should see (my husband and I were not up with the lasts movies) but we knew we wanted to go to the drive- in theater.
We drove back to town rented a hotel room put the mattress in the room, ran to the store to get things for a picnic dinner. A nice California wine and other things we like.
After the movie we went back to the Hotel. It was one of the nices dates we have had in a long time..(last summer too)
Grahod,
I think it would be nice to take the grandchildren next summer.
Great idea!

It's been probably 10 years ago. We still have a couple around here. The one that I used to go to back in the 60's is nothing but a couple of crumbling buildings and a marque sign at the side of the road. The screen blew down in windstorm in the 70's and that was the beginning of the end. Sad to see that one go.

It's probably been over 20 years ago, when my husband and I were dating. We grew up going to the drive-in every summer, but they're both closed back home now. I loved the drive-in, it was so much fun as a kid to go with family and then later to go with friends. My first job was at the drive-in concession stand. I miss them. I looked and there are still about 6 in this state, I may have to visit one of those sometime.

My 7-year-old grandson went to a drive-in last summer with friends, sat on the roof like we used to, and had a wonderful time. I last went to a drive-in in 1996 to see "Independence Day" with the man I married a few months later. We had a lovely time; don't ask me what the movie was about.........

I'd say it's been a good 20-25 years. We had one just down the street from us and we used to go all the time. Then it closed was vacant for a long time, and now they are putting in a new subdivision. It also happens to be next to a Cemetery.

About 15 years ago right after my divorce. I was dating a woman who had 2 kids and I have 2, also. We'd take her car and my truck. We'd sit in her car (so we could make out) and I'd put the truck in backwards and the kids would sit in the back of it or behind it outside.

The Drive-in there would flood when it rained and is now closed. Seems like they all are closing out here in CA.

I miss them :+(

About a year and a half ago. My daughter and I flew up to Cleveland to watch my son's four children while he and his wife went to Belize on vacation. One night after t hey came
back, he took us all to a Drive-in. It was FREEZING cold and everyone was miserable except for my son. We had blankets etc but still froze. We left early. I've lived down here where it's warm for 30 yrs and I'm not used to it.

I went about 5 years ago.
The sound was transmitted through radio's and everyone turned it up so loud in made me sick. The vibrations from the car speakers were literally making me dizzy. Needless to say it was an awful experience!

The last time I went to a drive-in theater I was wearing jammies with the feet on em'. I believe the closest drive-in to us is a two hour ride (one way) away.
