Having only tried 3 of them (Opera, IE, and Firefox) i can only comment on those 3 (although when i had aol i obviously had the inbuilt browser with the software, which i dont recommend)
I dismissed opera immediately because it was too much like firefox and i liked firefox better

infact i use both IE and firefox, depending what im doing.
I dont like the java plugin for firefox too much, however other plugins are easier to install on firefox and it is securer and faster

IE7 tried to copy the tabbing but failed miserably

So overall, Firefox

IE is great for most things as it is generally the most compatable with popular .NET applications. Mozzilla aslo works quite well with .NET and is generally more secure. Netscape, opera and safari are more niche players if you ask me and take some time to "Tweek" for general browsing.

If you a sense of security is your concern then Firefox is what you should try first. If compatible browsing is tops then go with IE.

In both cases buy a good Virus scanner before going crazy on ANY web pages.

As an aside, I pulled out an old Dell pc and loaded Ubuntu (linux) on it and WOW what a nice little surfing box that is. Still has some issues with Microsoft created sites but very secure because of the Linux kernal.

Firefox. When IE crashes it will sometimes take the whole computer down (I know from experience) at least when Firefox crashes it doesn't take the computer with it. We don't use IE anymore. Haven't tried the new beta though.

I have used them all and Firefox is the most popular and best in my books and most people i know.
I have not tried the beta version as i would rather wait until it comes out of beta version.
Firefox free download.

I'm a Firefox convert, after years of Netscape. I'm not familiar with Opera or Safari for Windows.

As others said, I agree that Mozilla Firefox is the best. Internet Explorer can install s*hit on your pc like malware without you even noticing it. Firefox is very reliable when it comes to security.

Both Firefox and Opera are good. IE is just horrible it doesn't even follow standards. Netscape is a bit "dated", AOL Explorer is IE but for AOL, and Safari for Windows is supposed to be good but I've never used it.

Firefox.

I have indeed tried the new beta, although I used it on Linux, not Windows. It seemed very fast, but there were a couple of odd rendering errors, so it is best to wait for the final release to pass judgment.

I vote in this order Firefox, Opera, Safari, IE

Ignore AOL, Netscape

Keep IE around only because MS is mean-spirited enough to insist you use it to install maintenance on MS and Office and other such MS products.

Avant is also interesting
