If they have it at 7 instead of 6 1/2, then there exists the possibility of a push. That would mean the house gets your juice (fee), even though you didn't actually lose your bet.

It's really done for the benefit of the house.

No, it's not the same thing. An even point spread can result in a push, where as the half point eliminates that possibility. The reason that the spread changes is purely due to the betting tendencies in Vegas. I believe it's (Trying to remember the exact numbers) something like every $100k in the direction of one team vs the other results in a half point shift in the spread. As long as the betting remains pretty even between the two teams, the spread doesn't change.

In a push, only the bookies win. Don't forget, they usually get around 10% of all bets, including pushes.

No, because if you had Dallas minus 7 and the final score was 21-14, you would push (tie). If you had Dallas minus 6-1/2 and the score was 21-14, you would win.

Far from it.

If the Cowboys win 38-31 with 6 1\2 pt spread, whoever bet the Cowboys win.

If the spread was 7, everyone would tie, and most cases everyone would lose.

No, not at all. The 1/2 will make or break you. The book must be very cautious to move on or off a half, particularly to 7. There is a reason, and here it is justified.

Not at all.

7 is a very commen game for scores to finish at.

At 6.5, you would win your bet if DAllas won 27-20. But at 7, you would push.

No. There is no push on 6.5. If you bet on Dallas while the spread was 6.5 and they won by 7 you would win.

If you bet on Dallas when the spread went to 7 you would push and not win nor lose.
