I have a 1989 Saab 900 and a portion of my catalytic converter (next to my exhaust pipe) has rusted off. Is it a safe temporary fix to attach the piece together with duct tape? I would like to replace the part, but I'll have to wait till I have some extra money.

u can try some high temp silacone u can get it at all parts stores or try thay do make exaust repair kit and puddy that might fix it for a wile but will not last u can get a new cat. for like 60 bucks in summet raceing and have some one weld it in for for like 100 bucks or less and yhat would be a long turm repair

Duct tape burns. You might try a tin can from some soup or vegetables. take the top and bottom off the can and then slice it length wise from end to end. Wrap it around the broken pipe and secure it with a couple of hose clamps. Be aware that the "fix" might still be leaking exhaust even though it's more quite and may cause death.

Duct tape is the universal tool...but not for an exhaust system. The exhaust pipes get VERY hot and the tape would just burn off. I wouldn't recommend it.

No. Duct tape can't handle the heat of a cat. It will burn and may cause other problems along the way.

Yea thats definitely going to melt...i would use something metal...Exhaust pipes get really hot after running awhile. Be creative lol

uhh your cat can reach temps of 1000+ degrees so unless you find material that can withstand the heat then i would suggest you get a new one. you might end up causing fires.
