I'm a proud Canadian, but I think you guys are crazy if you really believe that a CFL team would stand a chance against an NFL team, regardless of which country's rules were followed.

The talent level difference between the two leagues is astronomical. Just the speed difference alone is phenomenal. I don't know, I just can't imagine it even being close, no matter the rules.

\\\ - That was many moons ago. The difference between the leagues wasn't as great then as now.

And I think you miss judge a number of key issues.
First, with 12 men on the field most US quarterbacks would get picked off A LOT. We have seen it happen over and over again with guys from the US who are new to the Canadian scheme. Even after hundreds of reps in practice.
Second, with multiple men in motion, the US defense would jump offside A LOT. Free yards mean lots of short yardage plays.
Third, US kick cover teams would get clobbered by No Yards Penalties.
Fourth, on a larger field a concentrated pass attack is very effective. And passing would negate the skills of most D linemen and Inside linebackers.
Fifth, the Canadian ball is larger. And it makes a difference when throwing it.
Sixth, if an NFL team was forced into trying to gain 10 yards on 2 downs, a lot of the running game is negated. And in passing most Canadian running backs are capable of both blocking and getting out on the field into patterns.
Seventh, most NFL teams do not have the depth at Safety or cornerback to put 6 dbs on the field most of the game.
A Canadian team could hold there own in a exhibition game against most NFL teams if CFL rules were used. Mind you, take an NFL team and give it a year to learn the game and then the talent could overcome most of these advatnages.
BUT, the question was asked if could we just grab an NFL team and put them up against a CFL what would happen. In that instance, with very little preparation, the team with the advanced ingrained knowledge has a huge advantage.
If however, they were to use NFL rules, I don't think it would be as close because all the advantages listed above would be negated.

If it was all NFL rules, the CFL team would be dominated. Its safe to say most CFL players have played with NFL rules.

If it was CFL rules, then the CFL team MAY hang in there a while, but not for long.

NFL QB's may have difficulties adjusting to the extra man on the field. The offensive and defensive schemes are much different. The speed between plays is faster. The field is bigger, etc.

There are too many variables here, but overall I think the athletes are in the NFL because they are the best in the world, so I'd say they would defeat the CFL team.

I would have to agree, although played on a Canadian field with Canadian rules some of the linebackers and DB's might have some trouble. The NFL QB might have trouble with the larger field and extra DB, but might like the wide open passing. It is hard to argue with the difference in general speed and talent level. Although some of the guys actual size might be somewhat of a detriment with the larger field.
Now if they played on a NFL field with NFL rules it certainly would not be close at all!
