im in college; for me, it depends on what the subject is.. im taking maths - which i dont care if i understand, i just want a good grade in it because it looks good.

but in biology, i want to understand it because it really is interesting.. so really i think that students would of course, want good grades, but if that particular topic within the subject is interesting, they will also care about learning the material

hope this helped!

=)

Check on how many students show up at the professor's office hours throughout the entire course, and how many students show up a week before an exam.

There's your answer.

I have no problems with just caring about a grade if it doesn't relate to your major. But if you don't care about learning the material relevant to a career that you might have for the next half century, then maybe high school really WAS "the best four years of your life", because it sure isn't going to get any better working 40 hours a week at a job that you hate.

I believe that there are such a wide variety of characteristics among college students that surely there are some who just care about their grades as well as those who are actually into learning the material.

Depends on the class. Some of the classes are just there as filler , like basket weaving, so you are there for 4 years. Those are the just grades classes. The core classes, what you will be doing for the rest of your life, are about learning the material. At least thats the way I view it.

It would be hard to make a good grade and not learn something about the material.
