With Colvin out the Pats will not use that as an excuse. For one thing they won the first 4 games with out Rodney Harrison and Richard Seymour, Then two more games with out Seymour, so no losing Colvin will not matter. The Pats are the best at having dept. it is expected that replacement players play as good as starters.

The Pats won't need to make any excuses. He's ONE linebacker on a team that carries 9 linebackers. They are all role players. There's no ONE dominant linebacker in that squad. They reactivated Chad Brown from the Practice team (he'd probably start on about 10 teams), he'll be set up to fill Rosie's role in the defense. He may not do the job quite as well as Colvin, but with guys like Bruschi, Seau (playing like he's 25 again), Thomas, Vrabel (Pro-Bowl), but he'll fill the spot as necessary to give those guys fresh legs.
Never forget, the Patriots are a team of role players fighting for a championship, not individuals playing for stats. This is why they're so great. Belichick analyzes a players individual talents and inserts him into the puzzle as appropriate. This is ESPECIALLY true on the defense. I'm more concerned with the bumps and bruises they're experiencing in the secondary. That makes me a little more nervous. WIth Randall Gay and Ellis Hobbs getting dinged up Sunday, they're not nearly as deep in the secondary as they are at linebacker.
Then again, they're not going to need to be all that great to beat Baltimore this week. But they're going to have to be good next week against Pittsburgh.
The Colts fans are just so used to making excuses for their losses to the Patriots, they don't even realize they're doing it. Apparently, it didn't matter that Lawrence Maroney was out for that game, Richard Seymour was only back at practice for less than a week before that game, That Sammy Morris was hurt. Apparently, none of those injuries to the Patriots key players were worth noting. So, they just jacked up the crowd noise through the PA. Oh... And they like to call the Patriots cheats... Amazing, isn't it?

I don't think the Colts lost just because Harrison was out.. that, of course didn't help - but they lost because they lost intensity in the 4th quarter and didn't finish strong.
Colvin will be missed for the Patriots, but the defense hasn't exactly been the strength in the first place. It will hurt the pass rush the most.

Colvin to that team is a grain of sand to a beach. They are so interchangeable. Don't forget, Seymore and Harrison missed 4 and 6 games this year, didn't even notice they were gone.

Roosevelt Colvin can easily be replaced. Doesn't the Pats starting linebacker unit consist of Bruschi, Vrabel, Seau, and Adalius Thomas?

I have never heard the Pats or their fans make an excuse for losing. That's the Colts you're thinking of.
