Median household income in LA is 36,000? No Way!?

Are these official figures messed up or what?

The LA metro area median income is higher but within the city limits there are many low income areas the makes the median income much less. You can see a map of median income by census tracks at

Note: median income is for households income, not wages

That figure is hard to believe. I would guess more about 24K
