I have a problem with killing trees like those on display at Rockefeller Center in NY. Those trees have been around for scores of years and I don't see why they should be killed for a month long display. The smaller trees, I'm not so sure about but I imagine it's not such a great idea either.

I read an article recently that discussed this and it is actually good for the environment. These trees are specifically grown for this purpose. If no one used christmas trees then there would be millions of less trees being grown. The land those trees are grown on would be used for some other agricultural use but would not be pulling as much CO2 from the air. The trees are used and then they are discarded. A good number of them (at least in larger cities) are collected and are turned into mulch which is good for the environment as well.

Yep...sure do. I do not like artificial trees so I get a tree from a local nursery that still has it's roots then after Christmas, it gets planted. No harm - no foul. People cut down too many trees of all kinds for no reason ...not even thinkin about how long it took to grow that tree. Buy a live tree n plant it..makes sense to me..

No because the Christmas tree is recycled after it is used. I think it's more wrong to kill all the trees they kill every year just to make copy paper. People and corporations should recycle more.. and not be so wasteful. I think the Christmas tree is at least for a good cause.. and plus, the Christmas tree gets recycled! Didn't you know that?

Yes but it's not just up to me. I grew up with an artificial tree. But where we live now, we don't have room to keep it.
My husband likes the real tree as do the kids (my stepkids).
It does get recycled as someone said here already.
We don't hang up christmas lights outside. No place to really put them for one. And it's such a waste of electricity especially with global warming.

I think people should buy fake trees. You are supporting the economy, you are saving money and you are not killing a tree. You don't have to have a real tree to celebrate x-mas. It is the spirit of Christmas that makes it what it is... not a real or fake tree. Plus they cause fires and you get pine needles all in your carpet.

Yes, I do prefer to use a fake tree year after year. I like to think of it as recycing and saving trees.
I have heard of some real trees that come in pots so that you can plant them after the holidays...which I think it a good thing.

i don't know about wrong, but wasteful and perhaps disrespectful to mother earth. I do it, because it brings happiness to me and my family. I can see the damage that it causes though, like many religous traditions.
