I think speaking English is good for people who can learn the language. However, it has been known for centuries that the English language is by far the most difficult language to master in the world. So it is not something you can learn overnight or in a short time such as in a year. Also, if you look back into history, there have been a countless number of people who actually lost their cultural identity due to being forced to learn English in this country. People must take these other views into consideration before passing judgement.........

There was a drug store in LA that had such a policy. An employee was fired because she spoke to a customer in Spanish. The customer didn't speak much English and had a question about the medication she was taking. Firing an employee under those circumstances is truly absurd and is the kind of thing the new law would prevent.

I think it is Absurd that you even care. I care about the US stopping any further illegal immigration.
I also want companies that hire illegals fined, and the border patrol to stop anymore from coming in and NEITHER party wants to stop illegals from coming.
People who are legal residents should be able to speak to each other in German, French or Spanish or whatever as long as it does not interfere with work.

Please explain why we would need a National Language?
People are multi-lingual all over the world. Cultures change. We have a large Latin population in our country. We will have two languages eventually. In Switzerland signs are in Italian, French and German.
I think people's want of a National Language and hating on people not speaking English is based in fear and racism.

I'm a Conservative, but I must correct your bashing of Nancy "I'm a socialist" Pelosi.
She is refusing to bring to the House a Bill that would shield employers from being sued for requiring English as a prerequisite to being hired.
So, without this Bill, Jose can sue IBM for requiring him to speak English. ANY English.

Yes she said that if an employer highers a person that does not speak English that it is up to the employer to learn the language of the employee NOT the employee learning English. She is a typical Progressive liberal Democrat with anti-American tendencies and open border mania.

SHE can't make it illegal! A bill maybe introduced to make that a law. Unless she resorts to the Democrat tactic of burying inside of another bill.
The only reason she is doing this is because it's frustrating for her to communicate with her [illegal]hired help.

It is illegal to fire employees over their nationality as well as over their race, ethnicity, gender, or religion.
As a second generation immigrant I think it is wrong some people have lost their jobs simply for speaking spanish to some of their co-workers. Sometimes my parents will call me at work, and I don't speak english to them.
