how old did ur baby learn to talk or say a coherent word?

my baby is 1 now and still cant talk coherently..he talks but they are baby talks that only he can understand...he says mama but it obviously doesnt refer to me at all or it doesnt show that he knows its me or what mama is , its just certain sounds he emits...

sounds about right. my two boys both said either mama or dada but not towards us.......just to say it.

the first words they said intentionally were food related. "met" for milk or "snaa" for snack.

My son was about 8-9months when he started calling my hubby and I mama and dada, at 10 months he knew about 6 words other than mama and dada, but now he is 15months old and only uses about 10 words regularly. The Dr says its because he's so busy walking that he talks less now then before. Maybe your son is just working on some new skills, he will be ok. Just ask his doctor if your concerned.

my kids started saying words you could understand when they were between 7 and 9 months old. My oldest started talking very early, at 7 months old. By the time she was a yr old she could say 3-4 word sentences. Now she's 5 yrs old and talks constantly. She never shuts up lol. My youngest is 17 months old and says 2-3 word sentences. So she's not as advanced as her older sister but I would say she's in the normal development range. She catches on easily and learns words quickly. She repeats everything we say so we watch what we say around her of course. some babies learn quicker than others.

They are all different. I have a 21 month old, I watch 2 18 month olds during the day while their mothers work. My 21 month old was talking coherently at about 11 months...speaking in sentences by 18....the two 18 month olds are still working on words...one of them is speaking clearly, repeating words, the other is still just talking jibberish...they are all on their own time schedule....

It's all depends on the child, My daughter was talk by a 14months. But then my nephew didn't talk til he turned 2 and a half. The best this for you to do is pack on the reading, singing and talking. Read alot, sing fun songs (my daughter loved the little people CDs) and talk to him. discuss everything with him. Ask him what he wants to eat or drink. Do you want milk? Ok milk it is. When your in the store talk to him say what your getting and what your looking for. People may look at you the wrong way but he'll answer you in his own way. Then he's pick up on it. My youngest nephew is now 14 months and just now started saying Mama to his mom. He also says a few other words like Hi,Ba Ba and No. but that is it.

i did this with my middle nephew he was about 14 months also to get him to talk.

when he wanted a drink i got a cup and said Drink every time he wanted one and eventually he said drink.

Every time it was time for a meal i showed him his plate and said eat. and eventually he said eat.

my nephew is one and he says little things like mama, dada, byebye... all babies are different.

my son was only 4-5 months when he said mama, dada, and baba (bottle) clearly, however i remember my cousin was SILENT at that age. he is now 4 and can speak pretty clearly. with some babies it just takes time.

my little girl was talking in coherent phrases by the time she was 12 months. she was always very verbal as a child.
my son didnt really start talking until 15 months, but when he finally started he was saying everything.
