Why do places like McDonald's and Burger King choose to serve what society considers 'breakfast foods' only during certain hours? I'd give them more business if they served breakfast all day! (like Sonic)

Me too!!
What's with that?!?!?

I only used to go to Mc Donalds for their breakfast. They don't all stick to the same schedule, so sometimes I'd arrive out of luck. I had to go to Denny's- who DOES serve breakfast all day and all of the night! Good for them!!- nothing like a Belgian waffle covered with strawberries and whipped cream at 2AM before a big exam the next day! :)

Who are they to tell us when we can and when we can't eat our pancakes!!??

Here in Spain Mc Donalds doesn't even serve breakfast- ever!! That sucks even more!!

The real reason is they do not have the space to cook both breakfast non breakfast foods at the same time! A place like Denny's is a lot lower volume, and they also have more room in the kitchen!

McDonald's is looking into a new layout that may allow breakfast to be served all day, but it is still in the study stages

I would not be surprised if within a couple years mcdonalds and burger king both have 24 hour breakfast. With most mcdonalds now being open 24 hours (and burger king probably not far behind) it only makes sense to have a full menu 24 hours, breakfast is the fastest growing segment of fast food and there is certainly customer demand for this

breakfast foods spoil faster, eggs spoil, any bread like pancakes or biscuits get hard, meats form bacteria if held too long, waffles take too long to cook. Theres a laundry list of problems when it comes to serving breakfast. and the majority of people dont do breakfast any way. with fast foods, they roll with the majority. I always ask if I can have breakfast at these places because i never know 10 or 10 30 ,11 cut off-I hate it too. Now Im hungry!!!

Well, I know that at McDonalds, I guess the main reason is that it would cost a lot more money (new equipment in each store, more room, etc) and a lot more crew (due to the increased sales). So, I agree, that they should serve breakfast all day, but it's a big, I mean HUGE, undertaking, and the transfer from just breakfast or just lunch, to lunch and breakfast at the same time would be a lot of work, planning and organization. I know that McDonalds is thinking about it, or has thought about it, though.

oh, and tariza,
Some, (not all, but some) McDonalds will give you pancakes any time of day if you ask (Really nicely, lol) since all they have to do is stick them in the microwave...but not all of them will do that

I agree with you. This day in age many professions have different hours, doctors, Cops, firemen..etc. They may stop making it at that hour but it can be a special order. You should be able to order it through the day. I have been to Mc'ds recently and they are now making to order instead of pre-making the product. Whats so hard about taking a breakfast sandwich out and making that to order? They should accommodate everyone.

I think the same. They would do more business with an all day breakfast on their menus. They must be stupid to miss out on such an opportunity. Or it may be that they can't use the griddles for cooking both pork and beef products (cross contamination).

McDonalds makes their food ahead of time. It wouldn't be cost efficient to make a bunch of breakfast food when only some of the people will order it anytime. It would also be gross if you bought a breakfast sandwich at 2pm that had been sitting there since breakfast hours.

Because breakfast foods are not money makers.

maybe it is to hard for them to keep track of it all if they do that!
I prefer burger king's croissants any time over Mcdees!
