For example the kind you can get with Penn Foster distance learning. If you have a career diploma and/or have attended Penn Foster, please tell me what you think. Thanks.

Many years ago, I got a diploma from PCDI (now Ashworth) in Hotel/Rest. Management. With no hotel experience at all, I was able to land a front desk job.

Understand, the diploma isn't required for a front desk job (most people learn on-the-job) but having the diploma gave me an advantage over those who had no experience and no diploma. Anyone with experience would have beat me out of the job.

So, if you're talking about a field that isn't regulated and that people usually learn on-the-job; and you don't have any experience - then the diploma might be exactly what you need to get into the field.

Don't expect courses you take in a vocational program to be able to transfer to a degree program, it's an entirely different type of course.
