i have verizon dsl and they gave me a wireless router, but the wireless only travels about 3 feet. i looked on verizon's website about the dsl and it says you have to order it. Do i really have to do this, or just buy a different router?

Just buy another router.
I use Verizon DSL and bought my own router. Works fine.

You have to buy nothing. DSL Verizon comes w. a wireless router right?
If you have one the channel might have something to do with it but 3' or whatnot is not right. There may be some signal loss if you have a big house but there should not be a problem such as yours.
Call them up and schedule a service call. Tell them what your issue is and they will fix it. You don't have to wait weeks or anything.

if you already have the dsl box, and are paying for internet, the dsl box should pick up wireless, the numbers on the bottom of your dsl box need to be programed into your laptop
to make it work. if this dosn't work you may need to get another dsl box.

You generally have to get the very piece equipment supplied and shipped by the dsl provider...that's where they have you "over a barrel" (even though "it" may be a piece of equipment identical to the very selfsame piece you could buy through Amazon or Fry's or someplace else at quite a savings, like the one used in my case)!

Contact Verizon Tech Support & have them change the wireless channel to maximum so you can get your wireless signal as far as it can get.most routers can reach 150ft from router.
