I've done some research on here and have found out the song is by Rupert Holmes. So why do so many people think Jimmy Buffett did the song? I couldn't find any versions of him covering it.

It's not just "my crowd". I heard the song on the radio this morning and when I checked to see who sang it, it turned out someone else here had asked who sang the song, and a lot of people on Yahoo answers said it was Jimmy Buffett. Also if you look up Jimmy Buffet and that song title in google it will show up as his song too.

Jimmy Buffett often sang about drinking to have a good time, and often encourages people to get away from it all and forget their worries and cares, etc. Logically, they would connect the Pina Colada to this kind of lifestyle, that's where they get the Jimmy Buffett conclusion.
I knew it was Rupert Holmes. Jimmy Buffett's voice sounds a little grittier.

Jimmy Buffett never covered The Pina Colada Song. People think he did because it has a "tropical" theme maybe, but no he never sang it...why would he? He has a great repitoire without such a sucky 80's song!

Someone got their singers mixed up. Must be because Jimmy sings similar songs like that.

I have never once had anyone tell me that they thought Jimmy Buffet sang that song. Must just be your crowd.

I never thought he did, but do like the song...also like Buffet though, but have never seen him live, I would really enjoyseeing him I think.
