it depends on alot of things. i have heard of babies being born at 28 weeks and going on to survive. if they do come now they will face alot of challenges. there lungs may not be mature enough and they may have to spend several weeks in the nicu so if i was you i would have someone wheel me to the nicu to get a feel of what its like. it can be scary but know all those babies in there are being treated by professionals whose job is to save the babies life. the doctor will tell you all the risks associated with delivering early but as soon as they are delivered they will be handed off to their own neonatoligist and nicu nurses and they will do everything they can to give your babies a fighting chance. they also say babies who know mommy and daddy are there and love them and want them will fight much harder. i have seen alot of babies on the discovery health channels babies special delivery be born early but go on to lead normal healthy lives. there may be some developmental delays due to the fact they'll be born earlier than their due date but there is physical therpay, speech therpay all of those and you work with them will put them right on track. so if they are born now they will have a fighting chance. just pray!!!! the lord will hear you. he knows your every need. he loves you. i will pray for you as best as i can!!!!!!!!!!! the lord loves your babies and is proud of you for wanting them.
god bless you hun
jesus loves you and your daughters
good luck
congrats mommy to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
email me anytime if you need someone to talk to i will email you back and if you have a question i will answer it as best as i can.
for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that who so ever believeth in him should not parish but have everlasting life. (john 3:16)

I know a couple with twins, a boy and a girl, who just turned 1 year old. When she was pregnant with them, she began having complications going into premature labor when she was just 22 weeks. She went on bed rest at home and was hospitalized several times with labor. They did the best they could and made it to just past 28 weeks. Both weighed under 3 pounds at birth. At first, she was the sicker of the 2 then she took a turn for the better and he developed severe breathing problems. It has been a long and difficult year for those babies with numerous close calls and many prayers said to help one or the other of them make it through the night. Both have had surgeries and the little boy still has 1 or 2 more surgeries yet to have. The little girl came home the week of her original due date and the little boy had to stay another month past that. 25 weeks is so very early. Any additional days or weeks you can keep them in will help greatly. I know how scared this couple was along with all their family. It does seem good news that you haven't actually gone into labor. With my 3rd child my cervix was thinning 7 weeks before she was born and I didn't have to go on bed rest. Bed rest is really hard, a couple at our church had twin boys born very early and she had to be on bed rest the last 12 weeks of her pregnancy. We had a rotation of people who went in daily to make her meals and clean her house while her husband was at work. Those boys are 11 now and doing very well. There are many available drugs and procedures available to help stop pre-term labor so hopefully one of them will work for you. If not, the medical advancements to help preemies is amazing. When the little boy and girl twins were born, they had pictures of the dad's wedding ring fitting onto their tiny little legs. While small and behind developmentally, they are getting therapy and are both very happy babies.

Congrats to you. I know it's scary at this point, but your twins will be just fine.Do not think of their stay in the NICU as something bad. Instead, think of it as something that is good for them. They are where they need to be at this point. I want to labor at 33 weeks and gave birth at 33 1/2 weeks. My girls were 4 lbs 8 oz and 5 lbs 6 oz. I got 2 steroid shots to mature their lungs. They didn't need to be incubated, and didn't need to be in a feeding tube. The NICU had several criterias before babies are released: 1)can keep constant body temp, 2)they are gaining weight 3) can eat by themselves 4) at least 35 weeks gestation 5) can keep their food down (some babies throw up the food). The last criteria my twins met was that they had to be 35 weeks. So in the end, they were in the NICU only 10 days. So how long your twins will be in the NICU is entirely up to them. Different hospitals have their own criteria. If I were you, I would visit the twins when the NICU doctors are there and talk to them personally and ask. congrats again and good luck!

I have spent years working in a NICU in Canada, and while babies born at 25 weeks do survive, they usually have deficits. At 25 weeks, your babie's lungs are just starting to develop alveoli and surfactant, which is needed for breathing. If you think that you are in labour, or are leaking amniotic fluid, get to a hospital right away, as there are things that they can do to improve your baby's chance of survival. If they can give you steroids, it will help your baby's lungs develop faster. For some reason, preemie girls tend to do better than preemie boys.

In the UK, when delivery occurs after 30 weeks gestation, the outlook for the baby is very good, all other things being equal. Between 28 to 30 weeks there is still a good chance of a normal outcome, although some infants will run into problems. An infant delivering at 24 to 25 weeks can be expected to have a difficult time on a neonatal unit, and unfortunately many do not survive. Every day between 25 and 28 weeks is important and chance of survival without long-term problems gradually improves. These are, of course, gross generalisations, and individual factors will apply.

Hope that helps. Good luck, I hope your babies turn out okay.

Theres a blog of some parents who had preemie twins at 25 weeks.
The upside to this is that they have a really good chance of survival at 25 weeks. I mean a baby survived from 20 weeks. They will have to stay in the hospital a few months and have to be on breathing mech. But they do have a great huge chance of survival.

I have heard of babies being born at 25 weeks. My daughter was a preemie. It is a roller coaster ride, it isn't easy. But the nurses and Dr.'s in the NICU are WONDERFUL. You can call anytime to check in and see how your babies are doing. The nurses are the reason my little girl is with me here today. Just know that you will never be alone in the process. And the day you get to take your babies home, is the MOST fantastic day ever! Good Luck to you, I will keep you in my thoughts.

me and my identical twin sister were born at 28 weeks. we are now 24 and healthy. we stayed in the hosital for a month and a half because we could not eat. we weighed 3 pounds and slept in incubators. we awere small. we had tubes and the diapers came to our necks. but we got to go home and grew up normal. since the time i was born technology has advanced medicine greatly. i am sorry your scared but know that the hospital staf will take complete care of you and your babies. relax and try to enjoy your twins arrival into this world. congratulations!!!!!!
