We can learn much from history, but, sadly, we seldom do so.

There are really very few situations that human beings have not encountered before--the only things that change are styles and philosophies and weapons. The cave men fought with spears over water rights or hunting areas, modern humans fight with automatic weapons and bombs over much the same things--it might not be water or hunting areas literally, but it generally boils down to someone wanting something that another has.

Makes me wonder just how far we adults are removed from the the two preschoolers we see squabbling over the same toy.

Yes, it makes me totally aware of the truth of history cannot be changed, but history has been revised and is so corrupted, as well as omitting important facts that would negatively impact the accuracy of true history. Historical documents have ommitted with slight exception, the contribution women made that had a large part of the success this young nation continued to achieve. It is only the political leaders, the military leaders, the explorers, the mountain men, the members of our early maritime fleets, but nothing about the women who cooked, had children in covered wagons, sewed, serviced their husbands as their duty, helped pull the plows, tended the livestock, preserved foods, laundered, and took care of the kids. I wonder why these important contributions were ignored. The same goes for the black cowboys, the black scientists, the tenacity of this nations aboriginal natives, the insensitivity of the whites with european ancestry, when they deliberately provided articles contaminated with diseases to which the indians had no immunity, the slaughter of the massive herds of buffalo, to eliminate the food supply of the plains indians, the deliberate slaughter of tribal settlements, and the atrocities committed on the women and children of these tribes. Now just why do any of you suppose these facts have been ommitted? White males have this secret acceptance that they have dominion over everything. They are the real losers. It's their delusion that props up the false status the accept as their right.

Understanding our history help us to prevent making the same mistakes.

Now I am not saying it works all the time but that's why.

PS: I hated history as well. But I do understand why now.
