This is a difficult question - would it be an expansion team or an existing team moving from its present location to another city? Assuming this does not make any difference, here are some reliable (and pretty far-out) suggestions for new MLB cities, in no particular order of preference or likelihood:

1. Indianapolis (but the Reds would scream)
2. Louisville (but the Reds would scream, again)
3. Buffalo (Toronto and other Great Lakes teams might protest)
4. Vancouver (with the strong Canadian dollar, less protests from US players; however, the Mariners would probably only allow a NL team to be based there)
5. Portland (if they can be shown to have enough support re: population base)
6. Sacramento (large population base from which to draw - would the Giants and A's cause trouble though?)
7. San Jose (you can bet the Giants and A's would cause trouble)
8. Salt Lake City (open territory, but are there enough hard-core baseball fans out there?)
9. North Carolina (lots of areas there to choose from)
10. Orlando (with the name of "The Sleeping Beauties"!)
11. Jacksonville (worked with the NFL - why not with MLB?)
12. Mexico City (with all its inherent problems, still a place to consider)
13. Honolulu (would be a very POPULAR place to play!)
14. Tokyo (but competition from the Japanese leagues would likely keep this from happening).

A fun list to think about!

Portland, Oregon is the most likely city to next get a MLB team, either through expansion or relocation. At least as long as the anti-trust exemption remains in force.

Havana as a MLB city is only a heartbeat away, heh heh....

I would love to see a team in Ct. though it will never happen being between NY and BOS. I started following the Rangers only after the Whalers turned into Hurricanes. I'm a Yankee fan but I would love to see a Ct. team grow a fan base here.

Realistically, a good idea may be to expand out into the Caribbean where a good deal of our players are coming from. "The Borricuas of Puerto Rico"?

I think Portland, OR, and Las Vegas, NV should be considered. If baseball is lacking a presence anywhere, it's the northwest. Mostly the West. I also think they should be AL teams. I think this would provide balance to the divisions, and these cities are larger than people think. they would certainly be able to support a ballclub better than Tampa Gay. That was a great idea, huh?

Indianapolis - an AL team so the Reds don't care
Portland - gotta have a dome for the rain
How about a team in New Orleans?
Mexico City - lets invite our neighbors to the south to join in the fun.

I'm with you Scooter. I think that Portland is long overdue for a MLB team. Second choices would be Vegas and San Antonio.

I think that Portland would be an excellent choice. A couple other places that come to my mind would be San Antonio, Las Vegas, San Juan, or possibly Oklahoma City.

MLB does not need no more teams. But if they do add another team, I'll say Albuquerque, NM. They have a very good population and alot of baseball fans there....
