Babies don't need to drink plain water. The only time you should consider giving a baby water is when they are constipated, and then it should be sterilized.

Yes you can give the child water. I am sure that you would make sure the water is safe for the baby. Your baby should be getting enough from formula or breatmilk though.
SOME PEOPLE NEED TO SETTLE DOWN ABOUT WHAT YOU GIVE A BABY AND WHEN. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS DID? I know that my mom gave my brother cereal at 3 weeks because he was hungry. Now doctors tell you wait until 4-6 months. I think that some people go over board and shield their children from TOO much.
DONT YOU WONDER WHY THERE ARE SOOOOOO MANY MORE AUTISTIC CHILDREN TODAY THEN 20 YEARS AGO.

Okay your gonna get a million different answers on this one. I have only mixed my son's formula with the nursery water since day one. I dont drink tap water so i dont think I should have him do something he doesnt. But at 4 months i used to pour that nursery water in a bottle/sippy cup and let him have one a day. I dont give my son sweet drinks so water was something other than formula and they get floride for their teeth from it. But good luck a little water is not gonna hurt your baby

my dr, said it was ok, about 2 ounces a day. I mixed his formula with tap water all the time. he's ok

Other's may claim it's the flouride issue to not giving ur baby water. since the flouride is an issue they say to use non-flouride toothpaste when brushing ur babies gums/teeth.

If ur dr. ok's it and u feel comfortable about doing that then go for it. My boy is 1 and loves water... I started giving water by itself approx. 6 mos. to each is own.

good luck, Merry Christmas/Happy New Year.

Boil it.

To be safe I boiled all water until mine were 1 year old.

Edit:

I see the same sheep who have bought the myth that babies should only have breast milk or, heaven forbid, formula, have been through with the thumbs down.

Water should never replace milk but it can meet their needs between feeds.

Try to be empathic and think for yourselves. A baby can get dehydrated in hot weather just like any human. You don't want a steak to quench your thirst do you; same for babies.

On that note, I have read that in adults, thirst often masquerades as hunger. No wonder we have obesity as a problem when everyone is pumping their babies up on whole food in stead of allowing their systems a rest and simply giving them boiled water once in a while. I'm not surprised that adults can't tell the difference between thirst and hunger.

I sometimes gave mine a teaspoon of boiled water between feeds when they were tiny. Sometimes I put a few drops of peppermint essence in it when they were older.

I fed two until they were 13 months and one until he was two.
So the idea that you won't produce enough milk if baby has anything else and blah, blah bloody blah is silly.

He should be getting his fluids from milk or formula at this age. Even a relatively few ounces of water can be too much for a baby this young.

Soon he will be old enough to start introducing a few simple cereals. Talk to your pediatrician at your next check-up for his/her recommendations, based on your sons age and growth.

Congratulations on your baby!

No water. They get all the liquid/water they need from their formula/breastmilk. This is a ? for your doctor.

My mother in law suggested we replace a few bottles a day with water to cut down on formula cost. We felt it was wrong and asked our doctor before doing anything and he flipped out.

Water not only causes gas but can be deadly to a baby and shouldn't be given to a baby!

one doctor told me that i can give him boiled tap water, but my ped. said it is safe to give him regular tap water. i gave him water at 4 months and he is fine. just make sure he is getting enough formula or breast milk too. you can also go to your local grocery store and get infant water in a gallon for about .89 a gallon. that has the nutrients the baby needs. go ahead and give him some water, but not too much.

At four months your son should get all of the liquid he needs from his formula or breast milk. It's uncecessary.
