Yes it can, you'd be amazed what the body will with stand.
If she passes out they take a wee break until she comes round.
Decent chaps really, if they weren't I'm sure our wonderful PM would step in!
If she dies you can be sure the barbarians won't give a toss but the stern words that will come from the lips of Brown will no doubt have them shaking in their boots!

Well, it's not exactly 40 days. It depends heavily on the starting height, weight, and health of the individual. But it is possible for some otherwise healthy adults to survive 40 days. But it's not like starvation and famine were utterly unknown in the ancient world. They were more common, in fact. So I'm not sure why you are astounded that some story tellers picked 40 days for the length of a fast. Seriously, "how is that possible"? Did you think that starvation didn't exist until after the scientific revolution? Oh, and "begins to die" is some confirmation bias on your part, the body goes into starvation mode about 24 hours without food. After around a week, your body burns muscle tissue (or sooner if you have low BMI). Severe starvation effects happen at 30-40 days, but it can take 60 days before death (usually much less, especially if wandering around the desert getting dehydrated). So the story of Jesus' fast doesn't "fit perfectly", but it does fall within the plausible scope. But it is not beyond the knowledge available thousands of years ago.

I read yesterday that before a beating the person is given a medical to make sure they are fit enough to receive the punishment! How comforting and humane is that?
However after the beating the person receives no medical or treatment whatsoever from the authorities. I'm sure that death from injuries and shock do take place. It appears that the meting out of "justice" is of importance, death is just a consequence in the eyes of the law.

Well this guy was on the news today who had got 40 or so lashes because he broke the drinking ban,he was English,he said there is doctors on hand whilst it is going on but once finished that is it,he said he never thought his body could feel so much pain the lashes started from the shoulders & down to his calfs & back up again,he tryed to count the lashes but lost count because of the pain, they was saying the amount in Arabic, this punishment is barbaric & yes the women could die i suppose,,when you think of what sentences people get over here for bad crimes is a slap on the wrist compared to some so trival over there.maybe I should slap the next one I see over here putting one finger over one nostril & blowing snot out the other one & viser versa that is such a grose habit bit I've seen loads doing it.......no manners

No the body cannot take it. She will almost certainly be unconscious, have terrible cuts all over her back, sometimes ribs are exposed, the body will go into shock, I have never heard of anyone dying though but there is always a first time. If she did die then I am sure that the country will just say thats what god intended.

If the judge is silly enough to find her guilty, she will probably have the sentence carried out immediately, just like the other Briton.that was given 100 lashes for supposedly disobeying the alcohol laws. She won't be able to take this the poor poor woman. EDIT to Jackiedivinci. You are pure evil and i hope you burn in hell.

The human body can go through almost anything, but sometimes if the mind is weak the body gives in.

I watched Russian caning videos where the females were given upto 150 very hard bloody lashes each. They usually faint at about the 70th lash, but don't die.
