You may use your laptop on a commercial flight. You will be running on your battery in coach seats. Business and first class generally provide a 12 volt outlet. Internet connectivity is unavailable at this time.

As with the other answers, you can use the laptop after takeoff and before landing, but... They also tell you to turn off all wireless switches. You dont want to interfere with any of the plane's systems. The plane won't have any wireless access points anyway so it will not effect anything and you might save a few minutes of battery life too. You might want to bring your own headphones too. Watch a movie on your laptop or do some work but keep it from being loud for the other passengers.

youll be able to use it after you in the air up to the point of the final decent. Depending on the airline you will have to use battery for the entire flight. So unless your flying first class or business class, and not all flights offer classes, you wont have any options.
