If I am at work and make a mistake and someone I work with tells me I have made a mistake and shows me what I have done wrong and the right way to do it I get offended. I feel as if they think they are higher then me and have more knowledge. I mean we all make mistakes I understand. It's almost as if I think they are happy that they can show me something I messed up on.

Relax, "Constructive criticism" is a plus in life. How do you
improve your job performance, without it.
I worked in the skilled trades, in the factory, and I worked with
many different people. Each person I worked with, taught me
something more, than the last person I worked with.
Be happy someone is helping you, rather than going to your
boss on you. If people didn't like you. they wouldn't be willing
to help you at all. So thank them all, and Merry Christmas.:-)

You're getting offended because you are taking the criticism as a personal attack. In the case you described, it is not an attack, it is a teaching situation.

Now it could be the person teaching may need to learn a little more finesse in approaching people, but even then, the intention is to help you do well, not degrade you. It could also be a situtation where if you don't know how to do your job properly, then that person or the team is penalized, so it is also to their benefit that you be shown the correct way to do things.

Look at it this way. If the criticism, is meant to help you improve, then it is not an attack and is meant for your betterment. Don't be so defensive. If the criticism, does nothing to help you improve, then it is a personal attack--go ahead and be offended.

I get the same way. I think it is normal to feel this way because you are embarrassed, angry, and upset which in a work setting translates into being offended because the other emotions are too hard to show.

Just try to calm yourself down when something like this happens and to understand that no one is trying to make you feel this way. It is just something that comes with time and practice, but it will never go away completely.

here's a thought...
Nobody ever goes into a job knowing exactly how to do everything in perfect form. This person is just trying to help you get to that point though.
now here's the good point...
bite your tongue, accept the help, put it to good use and think this happy thought... you may have her job one day and you may be in the position to help some one like yourself be successful.
I doubt very much this person is doing this to make you feel bad so try to accept the help in the spirit it has been given.
I know it sounds like a bunch of rhetorical crap but you will feel better about yourself if you don't gripe at them for being nice

It may come across as offensive, and there are times I feel the same way. However, I just ask myself what their intent was . . . are they trying to help me or hurt me?
Would you rather know now or later, when it was probably done incorrectly more then once?
Also, it probably wasn't very easy for them to show you how to "do it the right way"

well, they DO have more knowledge than you, if you did something wrong, and they can show you the right way.
Try to not get defensive when someone helps you to broaden your awareness. Teaching is a gift, not a punishment. Be happy someone is willing to share new information with you.

So you're saying you know everything, make no mistakes, and need no ones help on anything. Interesting.
You're taking it too personally. Grow up and learn to accept the help gracefully.

you may get offended, it's probably just part of your personality, the key is not to let anybody know you are offended, cuz then you just look like a jerk.

Don't be so sensitive. If you screwed up, accept the correction and move on.
