Wow I am sorry nothing is more aggravating than having to live with some fool that is a slob!!!! I would suggest just setting some ground rules. If he wants to live like a pig in his bed room then he can but in the living room, kitchen and other main areas of the house each of you should pick up after yourselves. This will make the house easier to live in and will make both of you clean up your own mess. Then you all should take turns doing dishes. Say when the sink gets full one person does it and then the next time the other. Or you could always do the dishes and he could always do like the yard work. The jobs should be split up and I am a big fan of taking turns that way everyone gets the enjoyment of doing the crap jobs some of the time. Hey one week you do dishes and he cleans the bathroom the next you switch. The thing is in his room he should be allowed to keep it however he likes it and you however you like yours. In the main living areas of the house it should always be clean and both should always clean up your own messes after they are made. Good luck usually people who are really messy will end up not following through and you will end up doing it yourself or going crazy. Just sit down talk to him and get a plan worked out that you both can live with. =)

Are you sharing an apt? If so try and designate a day/time where he is responsible for cleaning up... Keep a laundry basket around and "collect" his stuff put it in his room... If the mess continues then he leaves you no choice but, to throw his things away... .Make that clear... You may have to be firm/nice to get your point across... Do you share a common bathroom? If you do leave a container of antibacterial wipes in their to at the very least "spot" clean and keep things fresh... If you could be more specific about what your roommate does.. I could probably help you more... good luck

Yes well as someone above me has said, his bedroom is his business so leave that alone but if he leaves stuff on the floor in common areas, I suggest you put it all in a basket and put it away until he asks where his something or other is and say "i asked you to clean up but you didn't pay attention so I threw everything out". He will freak out and then you can say "well i didn't this time but next time I will" and he might pay attention the next time you ask him to clean

Either kick him out and get a female roommate, which tends to be more tidy or tell him he has to use paper plates and cups for everything. Anything he leaves lying around, pick it up and throw it in his room.

how about one day you clean the entire house [[his space to]]
put his things where they don't belong
that way he'll have to search for the things he normally leaves on the floor
he'll be furious but just smile and say "next time clean it yourself and you'll know where everything is"
i'll bet you he'll get it right the next time
if not...MOVE OUT!
