I am hosting Christmas dinner at my house for the first time, and I am looking for some new side dishes to add to the normal green bean cassarole and mashed potatoes. We are serving Ham as the meat and I am adding glazed baby carrots to the menu this year.

I am just interested in seeing what your family puts on the Christmas dinner table and maybe I will add it to mine!

since you are having ham you MUST have some sort of sweet potato casserole, preferably one with lots of butter brown sugar and marshmallows. Try some corn dish as well, either a casserole or fresh frozen kernels, always better with butter of course.
I find Christmas dinner the time to pile on the butter because the rest of the year it's a total no no lol.

How about home made croutons. They are great in soup. Also, cheese straws. A variety of crackers, including goldfish if you have little kids coming. Depending of the types of soups you are making serve some garnishes with them. Grated cheese, crumbled bacon, diced scallions, pignoli nuts, pumpkin seeds, etc. Instead of having boring sandwiches make really good ones. Bake up a turkey breast, beef tenderloin, and a small spiral ham. Have a lot of condiments. Cranberry mayo, horshradish mayo and dijon mustard. Also, a variety of greens, red onion, and cheeses.

Brocolli salad. Made with tiny pieces of brocolli, raisins, red onion and italian dressing. Everyone loves it. The actual recipe calls for a pound of crushed fried bacon, but my way is healthier. I also use lite dressing and make it a day in advance to give the flavors a chance to marry.
