i got repossessed. there was a heavy negative equity of £34,000 and they are chasing me for the full amount, me and only me, i dont work and remarried but my husband refusses to pay for the place that had nothing to do with him, which i totally understand. we cant afford to pay another bill either. they sent me a letter and told me they are going to add another £24,000 as interest in what is owed. is there a limit when this debt can be written off? they have hounded me now for over 10 years, how can i give what i havent got and my ex is working full time with no commitments and he gets away scott free.

They're probably chasing your ex too.

The UK has a consumer friendly bankruptcy procedure that will discharge the obligation & you sound like you are a candidate for it. Go to the following site for information:

not exactly sure how these things work in the UK. Over here [America], the mortgage lenders will lie to everyone involved about whether they are chasing the other guys or not. They'll always make it seem as if all of it is falling on you and you alone.

unless and until they get paid something, after which they have to tell the truth about the new balance due to everyone, but do not have to say who paid how much or whether they gave that person a release of the remaining amount.

I think you need a solicitor.

Have you told them where your ex lives and where he works? They would normally go after the person with an income and that is not you. Not sure what else to tell you.

You need to see a lawyer. Good luck. Same thing happened to my sister but not to such an extreme.
