There are several things you can do. Is your ex working full time, are they working at a level that they could be, are your kids older than 2? Child support calculations can be done on potential to earn income....a person can not voluntairly impoverish themselves. You can go online and find your states child support calculator and see what it says. Many times the initial support amount is higher than it should be and you could be able to have it readjusted. I know a man who just got is recalculated. He was paying 2,200 per month and that left him with 900 per month. it is 50/50 now...

Then you need to speak to whoever is making the decision about how much family support you must pay. Show them concrete numbers - like pay stubs and living expense bills - to prove that your current payment requirements are a burden to you financially and see if you can negotiate a smaller payment while you are at your current income.
Just a note, though - your living expenses had better be basically the necessities and not full of vacation trips, extravagant shopping, etc or they will just laugh at you and tell you to cut back on your spending.

Get a roommate to share your rent with. Move in with a relative. Get a better job or a second job.
