Comic book help??
Hi...... I love love marvel and I was planning to buy a comic but I'm having trouble with that.... It is due to the fact that is the first marvel comic I am going to buy and I don't know which one to buy because all the series started so long ago that it is impossible to get all the comics..... so I would like to know which one is a new series that I can read without having to read an old series first or knowing anithing about the characters in it.... when I say something new I don't mean something that was launched this year.... maybe a new comic book that was launched in the 2000's..... I am a teenager so I would love to know if there are any comic books from marvel where the principal heroes are teenagers...... also I have seen some comic books called ultimate something like ultimate spiderman ... the ultimates etc.... so are they new??? can I read them without having to read all the x-men previous issues that where not from ultimate x-men ....thanks

If you are looking for the "newer" line of Marvels, the the Ultimate comics are a good place to start. Many readers had the same issue you are dealing with - 40+ years of history that they can not understand. (They're not like me who was around when they were first printed 40 years ago) So Marvel launched the "Ultimate" universe back in 2000.

While the "Ultimate" universe has characters with the same names (X-men, Spider-man, etc) as in their long time comics, they are actually totally different characters. They live in a different universe and do NOT share any history with the long time series. They were designed for new readers to be able to come on board.

They have the advantage that the writers of the Ultimate series have 40+ years of stories that they can pick from, take the best, get rid of things that did not work, and retell the best of the Marvel stories in a new setting and with new twist. The results has been a very enjoyable line of comics.

If you are looking for series with teenagers, Ultimate Spider-man and Ultimate X-men both fit. They are teen-age series. And the Ultimate Fantastic Four have been "de-aged" to teen-agers as well. (All excellent series).

So hop on board with the Ultimate line, and you will not need to read any of the other comics to enjoy them. Once comfortable, you can begin to look for graphics novels and the "essential" collections of the long time series and enjoy things like the Kirby run on the Fantastic Four (1-102), the Ditko run on Spider-man (1-36), the Byrne run on X-men (94-142) and other treasures from the past.

I just got my son into Thor which is restarting with a new storyline that is easy to get into...my son loves it. You can buy the first 4 issues at most comic book shops. There is also a reprint of the first 3 issues that makes it easy to try it out before trying to buy back issues.
Not sure about the teenage hero part, but my son is eleven and can't wait for the next Thor to come out.

i think the same as the other guy. or you might want to wait a while until they make a newer series. or just buy it and open a question like what happened before this

Nah, not probable. Sorry, Darth. I do like a number of them, nonetheless, yet in many circumstances, i'm basically not a comedian form of guy. Deadpool and the cousins from Bone are my favorites. in all likelihood Bone. maximum probable.
